Local OSCE Examination of the Surgical Residency Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, May 2026

The Surgical Residency Program of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, once again conducted its Local Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University / Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital.

This examination serves as a comprehensive assessment designed to evaluate residents competencies in various domains, including clinical skills, technical proficiency, clinical reasoning, professional communication, and decision-making in scenarios that reflect daily surgical practice. This assessment method is conducted through a series of structured and objective examination stations developed in accordance with the standards of specialist medical education.


A total of 13 surgical residents participated in the May 2026 Local OSCE:

The examination consisted of ten stations covering a wide range of surgical subspecialties and technical competencies, including Vascular Surgery, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS), Plastic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Digestive Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Urology, Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Basic Surgical Skills (BSS), and Neurosurgery. Each participant rotated through the stations according to a predetermined schedule and was assessed independently at every station. This structured arrangement ensured an orderly, efficient, and conducive examination process, allowing participants to demonstrate their best performance throughout the assessment.

The May 2026 Local OSCE involved faculty members and consultants from various surgical subspecialties who served as examiners:

The involvement of these examiners played a crucial role in ensuring that the assessment process was objective, standardized, and aligned with the competency outcomes established by the residency program. In addition to their role as assessors, the examiners contributed to maintaining the quality of education and training in accordance with the standards of surgical specialist education. Through the implementation of this Local OSCE, the Surgical Residency Program of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University continues its commitment to ensuring that every resident achieves the competencies required of a surgical specialist. Continuous and structured evaluations are expected to produce graduates who are professional, competent, ethical, and well-prepared to provide high-quality surgical care to the community. This activity also reflects the program’s ongoing commitment to maintaining excellence in specialist medical education through an objective, transparent, and competency-based evaluation system.
