Pendidikan Kedokteran Berkelanjutan (PKB) Ilmu Bedah Udayana 2026: Decision in Minutes, Outcomes for a Lifetime
The Surgical Residency Program of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University once again organized the PKB Ilmu Bedah Udayana on Saturday, March 14, 2026, held at the 5th Floor Polyclinic Building of RSUP Prof. Dr. dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah, Denpasar, Bali. This scientific event featured a series of academic and competitive activities, including a Symposium, the Udayana Surgical Competition (USC), and an Oral Presentation session. The event carried the theme “Decision in Minutes, Outcomes for a Lifetime,” emphasizing the importance of timely and accurate decision-making in surgical practice.
The symposium session began with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem Indonesia Raya, followed by a prayer and an opening performance of the Cenderawasih Dance. The event was officially opened through welcoming remarks and a ceremonial gong by Dr. dr. I Made Darmajaya, Sp.B., Sp.BA., Subsp.D.A(K), MARS., FIAPS, Director of Medical and Nursing Services of RSUP Prof. Dr. dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah, together with Prof. Dr. dr. Putu Anda Tusta Adiputra, Sp.B., Subsp.Onk(K), Head of the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.
During the scientific symposium sessions, various topics relevant to daily surgical practice particularly in emergency situations were discussed. The topics and speakers were as follows:

In addition, the event was enlivened by the Udayana Surgical Competition (USC), which began with the preliminary rounds for Groups A through D and continued with the final round in the afternoon. This competition was designed to test participants’ clinical ability, surgical knowledge, and critical thinking skills in responding to various clinical case scenarios. The winners of the USC were:

The event continued with the Oral Presentation session, where the 10 best participants were selected to present their scientific research before a panel of judges. The winners of the Oral Presentation category were as follows:
First Place was awarded to Tirza Faithania Amaris for the research titled:
“Does Mesh Fixation Strategy Influence Postoperative Outcomes in Laparoscopic Surgery? Comparing Outcomes of Self-Fixating and Conventional Mesh Fixation in Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Trials.”
Second Place was awarded to Komang Harsa Abhinaya Duarsa for the research titled:
“Survival and Post-Surgery Outcomes in Living vs Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation: A Comprehensive Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review.”
Third Place was awarded to Wisista Latifa Maharani for the research titled:
“Defining the Optimal Endoscopic Route for Highly Migrated L5–S1 Disc Herniation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.”
These series of activities concluded with the announcement of winners and the presentation of trophies by Dr. dr. Made Agus Dwianthara Sueta, Sp.B., Subsp.BD(K) to the competition winners. This event is expected to serve as a platform for enhancing professional competence, facilitating scientific exchange, and strengthening academic collaboration in the field of surgery. Through the organization of this event, the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, once again reaffirms its commitment to advancing surgical science that is evidence-based, collaborative, and oriented toward improving the quality of healthcare services.
